How can we work together to make Fredericton (and area) better?
If you have ever uttered this sentence, in any context, or portion thereof, you need to know about the Great Gathering. It will convene on November 23 and 24. Go to greatgathering.ca for information and to register.
However, if you question what the Great Gathering can achieve, then stop and consider the story of Volunteer Greater Fredericton. It is a relatively new organization around the Fredericton scene. It came into being as a direct result of the last Great Gathering in 2010, then known as the Open Space Forum.
During Open Space, there were a group of individuals who believed in the power of volunteerism, and believed that Fredericton needed a centre that would promote volunteerism.
2 years of hard work and dedication have translated into Volunteer Greater Fredericton. They have a grand vision of being able to connect those who want to volunteer with non-profit organizations that need volunteers. They want to grow the overall number of people volunteering.
Volunteer Greater Fredericton has postings of opportunities to volunteer. I’ll mention a few of the current postings:
- volunteer for the 2013 World Mixed Doubles and World Championships (Curling)
- Board position with Laubach Literacy Foundation
- Tutor with the Multicultural Asocciation of Fredericton
Click here to go to the latest opportunities. It is quite amazing when volunteers come together with a purpose. Volunteers achieve great things for the organizations and people served by those organizations.
I’m happy that Volunteer Greater Fredericton has arisen to be the bridge between the volunteer and the organization.
I hope that you come to the Great Gathering. Your idea may well become the success story from the 2012 Great Gathering.
What idea do you wish to discuss at the Great Gathering?
